Shootin Blanks

Well, first real post; here I go! Before I start explaining this grand adventure I had tonight with my roommates Ryan and Travis I must first explain a previous adventure Travis and I took sometime early last year: One night we, Travis and I, found out we have a common "love" if you will, for exploring trails and going on late night drives. So one night we took the road way out to Lake Lopez and tried to cut over to a small little town. Everything seemed to be going fine, we had a few stream crossings and a lot of rocky roads, but all in all a decent off-road trip, especially in his little VW. Well, our little adventure just got super crazy when we hit a sign in the road saying it wasn't maintained and SLO would not be responsible for any or all damages. But being the guys we are we went on thinking nothing much of it. Let me tell you, it got pretty crazy. It got so bad we tried several attempts to get over a hill we had to turn back and call it a night. On the way back the car was making some interesting noises so we were taking it slow. All of a sudden this big creature walked out on the road. We were both puzzled at what it was. Out in the middle of nowhere, it was late and dark. We drive a little closer and find out it was a random horse that had somehow escaped. Good grief, what a night! So I would conclude that as our first blank shot. An adventurous, but ultimately failed attempt to reach the small town.

With that in mind, let me tell you about tonight's adventure! It wasn't as rocky or dangerous as the first excursion, but that didn't keep us from being cautious. Bobbing up and down we come across this radio tower and a whole bunch of satellites. It looked, alien. Kinda cool and all, but strange about the place. As we continues our drive past the station we happened to drive above the clouds and stare down into what we thought was SLO but a vast sea of fog. If we had a soundtrack of the ocean waves beating on the beach you would have thought we were at the beach. It was quite a sight. Random spots there were these lights protruding from the clouds. Something I wish I could show you but lack the photography needed. Anyways, as we continue on we are constantly trying to figure out where this road was taking us and all. We saw National Park signs and small masonry walls and ended up in some sort of pine forest with little trails and pull offs. It was crazy! But that's when it got my heart beating and longing for the comfort of a rifle strung across my shoulder. We are pulling around this bend when we see this park, a white Toyota backed into this "spot" it fitted perfectly in. It was beyond freaky. So that got my heart racing for a while. We keep on traveling down the road and eventually hit this spot on the road covered by rocks from, yup, you guessed it, a rock slide. That was super heartbreaking. We got out and could see the other side of the trail. So we turned around and started back the way we came. We also timed ourselves back and marked the distance which I'll tell you a little later. As we were driving back we pointed out things we passed and I thought about the truck. This time it would be on my side of the car. "Oh F" I thought. We were about to round the corner and I was like its gonna be right there.... BAM! There it was! Aw Frick-n-A. Scared the CRAP outta me! Even now, 2 hours after the trip lying in bed I'm still shaking and face glazed over. Well anyways, that pretty much wraps up part one of tonight. On our way back it took us 45 min and we traveled a whooping 9 miles! Woo Hoo! And Bang. Another blank shot.

Part two was a little more enjoyable. We came home and grabbed Ryan to make a quick Sunshine run. All of you not familiar with SLO, its the best donut shop EVER, open 24/7. During that transition I noticed a cat in our driveway so I figured I might as well shoot it. Last time we shot a cat its reaction was hilarious! It was airborne for a solid second and ran off. Hahaha. However, this time I just wanted to scare it so I shot into the weeds and it ran off. Anyways, we get to Sunshine and I had the best chocolate donut in a long time. It was simply satisfying. Gosh I love college.
